The best way to capture your travel memories is through the time-honored practice of travel sketching.  Sketches, even if simple, will memorialize your trips in a way no photograph can. Appropriate for those new to drawing, we will take you on a step-by-step tour to get set up with supplies and suggest how to get started (often the hardest part)!

In this series of four two-hour classes, we will begin with very simple principles and conclude with an outdoor journey to sketch what you see. We will provide different techniques and tools in each class: graphite pencils, pen and ink, watercolor, and combinations of these basic tools.

  • Week One: We will show the simple steps to get started, plus cover how to create your own travel sketching kit. A list of our recommended items and resources will be provided.

  • Week Two: We will sketch a simple street scene, as though you are sitting in a local cafe.  You will learn the simple steps to draw the buildings you see, and even include people!

  • Week Three: For "Sea and Sand Week," let's capture the sea, sky, palms, sailboats, and sand, as though we are there, live-sketching.

  • Week Four: We will visit a nearby location and do some live travel sketching! This is a chance to put what you have learned into practice, and it's lots of fun!

All materials are provided, and students may also bring their own.
