The Japanese Art of Nihonga

$50.00

A piece of my heart on a golden fan - A Special Workshop with visiting Japanese artist Ayaka.

Friday, March 6 from 2-4 PM
The Atherton Arts Foundation Studio, Holbrook Palmer Park, 150 Watkins Ave, Atherton, CA 94027

A workshop where we will paint with pulverized mineral pigment in the traditional Japanese “Nihonga” technique.
We will use gold fan-shaped mulberry paper, which has been used to present poetry or paintings since the Heian period (794 A.D.).
Its shape expresses the Japanese aesthetic ideal of “elegance” and is seen as a “medium reflecting the heart” in gifts and ceremonies.
Come paint a piece of your heart to give to a beloved someone, or yourself!

Fee includes all materials, including the special fan-shaped paper and hand-prepared paints.
